Species: Human.

History: here.

Personality:

Tobio Kageyama is not the perfect boy. He lacks tact, has a foul mouth and a rotten temper to boot. He's usually alright with those older than him, but with people on the whole? Well, he's not too great with relationships, his interpersonal skills severely lacking, and when he speaks, he's blunt, almost to the point of being offensive. Sometimes he is offensive. One of Karasuno's volleyball team members points out he has no self-awareness. It's not as if he means to hurt anyone's feelings-- most of the time. It's just the way Kageyama is. To put things in perspective, one of his biggest fears is that animals dislike him. What kind of mean teenager would worry about something like that if his intentions were malicious?

Aside from his missing social skills, Kageyama isn't the brightest crayon in the box, either. He has trouble with Math and English and his grades overall aren't the best, putting him in a bad spot when it comes to needing good marks to stay involved in Karasuno's volleyball team's activities. He's determined, though, especially when it comes to playing volleyball, going as far as begging for help from other players to help him study to be able to stay with the team. However, Kageyama is known as a genius to some, though it has nothing to do with his grades but has everything to do with volleyball.

Kageyama is an excellent setter, and seeing or receiving a toss from him is something people find amazing. He tosses with pinpoint accuracy, able to control the ball so well that he can send it perfectly to any location or player he chooses. He does this especially well with Hinata, their teamwork and trust toward each other earning their combo move nicknames like the "freak toss" and the "god fast spike." He wishes to become a control tower for the team and to be able to throw tosses that won't be blocked by his spiker. The aforementioned trust shared by he and Hinta is important due to something that happened in his past. Things weren't always great for Kageyama when it comes to volleyball.

In junior high, Kageyama attended Kitagawa Daiichi, where he earned the nickname "King of the Court." Those unfamiliar with his junior high days assume it has to do with Kageyama's incredible skill on the court as a setter, but that isn't the truth. Kageyama was not a benevolent king, instead demanding that his teammates push themselves to hit his tosses, becoming irritated and angry when they were unable to. This ultimately landed him with no friends and the loss of his teammate's cooperation and willingness to play with him any longer. They left Kageyama stranded alone and this is where his trust in his teammates was lost. Being the dictator he was, you could say he had it coming to him, but nonetheless it left a big impression on the young Kageyama.

When first coming to Karasuno, Kageyama was unwilling to work with Hinata, saying that he'd rather "toss, spike and receive" all by himself. Over time, however, Kageyama starts to learn to look at things from the perspective of being on a team and not being the sole person that holds up everyone else. His attempts at compliments and encouragement are a little awkward and forced though genuine, his smiles aren't the friendliest-looking, and he's learning things in life like expecting high-fives when he pulls off a good play on the court.

It's important to mention Hinata separately from the rest of the team. After having met him at a volleyball match when he was still in Kitagawa Daiichi, seeing him again once he was in high school was quite the surprise for them both. It was, more or less, a fated rivalry (fated, because even though they've developed a friendship, they still vow to win against the other in the end) and the two refused to work together at first, mostly out of hatred for the other. Fortunately, it took almost no time at all for that hatred to turn into trust and partnership, mostly based around volleyball itself. The phrase "opposites attract" would match them very well: Kageyama doesn't have much to say unless he's angry and Hinata has something to say to everyone; Kageyama is stoic and not that outwardly excitable while if Hinata is excited, he can't stay still. Hinata is like his foil. He's someone to talk to about volleyball with and compete against. Hinata is who will spike his tosses no matter what, and Kageyama is the person that makes Hinata invincible on the court.

Overall, Tobio Kageyama is just a big volleyball nerd who actually does have room in his heart for more than just the sport. He might yell a lot and his more forced smiles could probably send a shiver down your spine, but in the end the kid just wants to play volleyball and have his team be great enough to win-- and now that he's come to Karasuno, his team is made of people, teammates, and not pawns. He's able to have something with them that he's never had before: trust.

Abilities: He's a genius at volleyball, and just at volleyball. The only otherworldly thing about him is his crazy obsession with his favorite sport (guess which one) and his skill on the court. He's an excellent setter, able to toss to others with pinpoint accuracy. This is especially so for Hinata, which the series symbolizes as a target through a crosshair when Kageyama is tossing to him. When playing, he's very focused and able to calmly predict his opponent's movements. He has a fantastic memory that he uses to remember hand signs during the game, as well.

[ it's a video. at first all that's visible is a torso from the shoulders down to the waist, and then as the person steps back, a boy's face is shown. he's got short, black hair and dark blue eyes. he looks absolutely disgruntled. honestly, his default expression is sort of similar, a permanent frown etched into his face. it's the face he was born with, he says. there are rare occasions when he smiles, but this is not one of those times. ]

...Ka... Kageyama Tobio. [ his mouth barely moves when he says his name. he's nervous, but he'd be hard-pressed to admit it. kageyama isn't exactly a people person; his social skills are still a little lacking. better than he was in junior high, though. ] I'm from Japan. I was supposed to be going to Tokyo and now I'm here. In... space.

[ the wrinkles between his eyebrows are suddenly more defined as kageyama gets a little frustrated, a little more confused, furrowing his eyebrows, and he bangs his fist against whatever is most conviniently near him. now he just looks mad, but almost hilariously so. ]

Dammit! How do you play volleyball in space?! I don't know any space volleyball teams! I'm from Earth, anyway, why should I know anything about space?!

[ he raises both his hands, fingers splayed in an unbelieving sort of stance. ]

What idiot would be excited to be here when we've been kidnapped?!
